A 6" valance is included at no additional charge. The materials used to make Natural Woven Wood Shades have unique variations in color and texture. The size and shape of slats and reeds affect their spacing. Color variations in some materials will continue to change over time. This is normal and does not represent a defect in the material. Natural Woven Wood Shades filter rather than block the light. They do provide daytime privacy. "My husband and I are starting some remodeling of a house we bought a year ago. I have finally decided how I want our house to look, both our side and in. We started with the windows. My husband likes to see the views from our windows and I like privacy. The compromise was the Bamboo blinds from Blinds.com. I couldn't believe we got 8 blinds custom made for $800!! I had a friend who special ordered blinds from a big name company at a big box retailer. Two shipments later and he still has defective blinds that don't operate the way they are supposed to - and the replacement for the first set is discolored. "I was leery of this product given the fact it was called an "economy" woven wood shade. But I really liked the sample and decided to take my chances. And I'm glad I did -- the shades look FANTASTIC in the kitchen! The Franca style is woven tight enough that I didn't need a privacy lining. Due to the size of the shades, I ordered a continuous cord loop which works very smoothly (but I wish it wasn't white as it sticks out like a sore thumb against the darker shade.) The only problem we encountered was that the manufacturer forgot to put the "plastic velcro" on one of the outside-mounted shades to attach the returns. But customer service quickly took care of that problem. I had the shades professionally installed, as we were in the midst of our move. I feel like we got a very upscale, updated look for a very reasonable price. I will definitely recommend this product and Blinds.com to family and friends."
